We produce portraits that are about you!

We choose to make that affordable for you.

If your school contracts with another studio for your yearbook/senior panel portrait, and you want to purchase a picture in your cap and gown or whatever outfit is required for the yearbook, we can create a portrait for you in that outfit, too!  No one can contract for you where you must spend your money, so you're free to go to any photographer you choose for your real senior pictures -- the ones for family and friends.

Your school contracts with a studio for your yearbook/senior panel pictures.  You may have your senior portraits done by us or another studio and still be in your yearbook, because there is a difference between "yearbook pictures" and "senior portraits."

Are we the right studio for everyone? Obviously, we think so, or we wouldn't be in business. Obviously, a lot of other people think so, or we wouldn't stay in business. In reality, no, we aren't right for everyone. Some people can't afford to invest in quality portraits. For some, photography is just not a priority. Some people want to spend more than what we ask for our services. Some people love our style, others want a different look than what we offer. Before you decide for sure, request our report: 11 Huge Mistakes that Ruin Most Senior Portraits. Obviously, we hope it will help you choose us. But whether you choose us or not, it will help you choose more wisely.

The contract studio wants you to do all your pictures with them, just as we do with the Newcastle seniors (where we are the contract studio). However, your contract studio may be afraid you'll do your senior portraits somewhere else and just use their studio for the yearbook. They may not be willing to admit you have that choice, even though that's a risk they take by getting the contract. The fact is, they have the specifications for print size, background, clothing guidelines, etc.  It is simpler to have your yearbook picture done by your school's contract studio, and we recommend that you do so, either at their studio or on picture day at your school in the Fall.  However, with permission from the school and a copyright release from the photographer who creates your portrait, you may be able to use a photograph from another studio. Make sure you have the right clothing, and get the specifcations from the yearbook coordinator for lighting, posing, head size, and background so your photo looks like it belongs in the yearbook and senior panel.

Call now and schedule a time to come in and chat - no cost or obligation. Just visit with us about what's important to you about your senior portraits, look at some of our samples, and decide for yourself. There will be no pressure, and as I said, it doesn't cost anything to chat with us.

What should I bring with me?

For the best senior portrait experience schedule a planning visit before your senior session.  This will allow you to come to your session more prepared and save time on the day of your photo session.

Bring a variety of clothes: Dress up, casual, formal, fun ... bring plenty. We'll help you choose the ones that will work best. Remember solid colors usually look best in photographs. It's a good idea to have at least one long-sleeve outfit, even if it's summer time.  Sleeveless shirts or sundresses are okay for some photos, but generally, you may not be as pleased with the results in some poses. Bare arms tend to make you look heavier.

Let your imagination go --- uniforms, sports gear, band instruments, a pet, horses & saddles (we do real outdoor photography), a friend, a family member, stuffed animals, hunting or fishing gear, your car, truck, or motorcycle.... No extra charge to include your own props.

When should I have my senior portraits made?

Got an appointment card, telling you when you're supposed to go to the school's contract studio for your "senior pictures?"  This is a way for the contract studio to get the ball rolling and meet their deadlines.
There is a difference between "yearbook picture" and senior portraits.  You can choose for yourself where you want your senior portraits created.

Most seniors get their pictures in the summer just before their senior year begins, so they have some pictures to take to school and exchange with their friends. After school starts, there are a lot of other demands on both your time and money.  It's a good idea to get your pictures done before everything else hits!  However, as long as you have your yearbook photo done in time for their deadlines, you can have your senior portraits done anytime during your senior year. It's never too late.

Can my photos be retouched?

Yes!  In fact, all Carr Portrait Art portraits receive retouching of blemishes, stray hairs, softening facial lines, etc., as needed. This is included in the price and is not yet another add on fee as with most studios. We care about how you look as much as you do! Additional retouch is available if requested. Removal of braces, scars, eye-glass glare, or other more extensive art work is also available for an additional charge.

In addition, for a really classic portrait, additional techniques can be applied to your portrait for an even more artistic effect -- from enhancing the background to creating watercolor or other painterly effects.
